my name is Richard Braddock and this site represents my official web presence. Here you'll find a list of my previous projects, areas of interest, and additional background information you may find useful if you are a stalker/friend/potential employer.
I am a 23 year-old Computing professional, born in Lancashire & currently travelling around Australasia.
My education consists of a Bachelor of Sciences Degree (First Class Honours) in Computer Communications from Leeds Metropolitan University as well as an earlier vocational award tackling issues relevant to the wider ICT sphere. Whilst studying the former of these qualifications I was lucky enough to win the John Wiley Publishing prize for outstanding achievement whilst in the latter I achieved an annual institution-wide excellence accolade. In addition to my focus on I.T. related study I am also trained in both creating and analysing several sources of New Media, which is an interest I have carried over into my personal life.
My professional experience includes working for a leading software house specialising in Estate Agency Management Solutions, the largest health service trust in Europe, manning the frontlines of a Wireless ISP covering a large residential complex, and performing occasional consulting mostly to small businesses in need of practical ICT advice. In between I've kept busy operating in both retail and hospitality sectors, often finding the the skills gained there beneficial in my more technical roles.
My background is in Computer Networking and related disciplines but my wider interests reach into the areas of Pervasive Computing, Efficient x86 Platforms, ARM SoC Educational Deployments, DLP (Data Loss Prevention) Policy, Computer Hardware Maintenance & Architecture, Windows & 'Nix administrative configuration, Modern Project Management Frameworks and Sustainable Renewable electricity deployments related to all the above. I am also an Apple Certified Support Professional and hold the relevant accreditation for Leopard.
Away from the computing side of my life you might find me playing football, supporting my hometown team, travelling on a budget, doing the odd spot of freelance journalism, crafting shoddy electronics, indulging in digital photography and manipulation, video editing, eating excellent cheese and drinking mediocre wine.
If you wish to speak to me, please do feel free to make use of my contact form and I will endeavour to be in touch as soon as possible.
In the latter stages of 2008 I successfully helped academic staff at Leeds Metropolitan bid for funding on a JANET (UK) sponsored initiative to develop & create a Mobile WLAN device intended to aid field study deployments. This project occupied my time throughout July - November of 2009, and details of the work, hardware & trials will seep out in late 2010.
You can find out more about that project at the official JANET pages.
Or you can read about it in their newsletter from March 2009.
You can also view Mark O'Leary's presentation given at the 3rd annual NGN Workshop, Prague, Feb 2009.
Before this project arose I was mainly concerned with my graduate level research, which revolved around designing a robust e-learning environment implemented within static and mobile scenarios, designed around the constraints of developing nations.
More detail about that initiative can be found at the Up-Stream project homepage.
A short interview about that work and the way it interlinks to the JANET project can be found at Innovation North (LMU).
Programme notes for the Next Generation Networking: Open Platforms and Services conference, at which a portion of this work was presented can be found through the University of Glamorgan.

Most of the time the easiest way to get a response from me will be to use the short contact form below. However, if you know me in a professional or personal capacity you may want to connect with me on Twitter or Linkedin. As a bonus, having accounts on these services also makes me highly stalkable! Hope to speak with you soon.
